If you haven't watched Tim Burton's latest flick, don't just go by the 6.6 rating IMDb gives Dark Shadows. The movie is a 2 hour joy ride, a mustwatch of sorts.
Okay, now that I am less excited and more objective, Dark Shadows is one of those movies which cracks you up in bits and pieces and leaves a lasting impression in your minds.
Johnny Depp shows why he is considered one of the best in his profession yet again. With an oddly humorous accent, he is definitely going to catch your attention. The movie starts in the 18 century and fast forwards 200 years into the 20th century. The story revolves around the Collins family and Barnabus' return 200 years later to his family mansion.
Brilliant screenplay and direction apart, what makes this movie a mustwatch, in its own way, is the subtelity in Depp's character, Barnabus Collins' humor. The best sequence in the movie, for me, was Barnabus' walk from his grave to his mansion. Pharases like "Curious terrain!" and "Have at me, Lucifer!" are simple, and funny!
It would be wrong, however, to tag this as a one man show. Performances from Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter were equally decent.
For a movie that made all the exam tension go away, I loved Dark Shadows and would recommend it to one and all. Yes, the ending is a little bit of a drag and pulls the movie's appeal down significantly, but it is still not something you would want to pass off.

PS. The use of "Nights in White Satin" in the beginning and credits was a masterstroke! Perfectly fits the movie!
